Whistler Olympic Park / Callaghan Valley

We need YOU! To volunteer for Callaghan

The Olympic flame has come and gone, and we have some great legacies, the most important to cross country skiers being Callaghan Valley/Whistler Olympic Park.   This fantastic trail system offers cross country skiers in the Sea to Sky corridor unlimited opportunity, both recreationally, and to grow the popularity of cross country racing.

That untapped potential needs you to help it develop.  Yes, you.  Really.  If you can stand up, you can volunteer.  We will find a job for you.  You don’t have time to help out during the race?  Well, you can still help out by working on the event planning committee before race day.

WOP is going to host racing events at all levels, from youth to adult, Coast Cup races to loppets to national and international competition like the Haywood NorAms and in the future, World Cups.  In order for these  events to happen, we need warm bodies, and lots of them.

Do you have experience with marketing and promotions?  We need you.  Media relations?  Yup, need you.  Are you good at organizing people?  Well, we need a volunteer co-ordinator.  Do you have limited time but want to be closer to the action on race day?  There is a spot for you on the stadium, timing, or course marshal teams.

Worried you don’t know what to do?  Don’t be.  You will get on the job training and support.  This is supposed to be fun, so no pressure, just do your best and wear a smile and warm clothes.  There is a wide range of possible roles for volunteers - from working with power tools to operating timing equipment, to directing traffic along the race route, to strapping on timing chips, marking skis, bib counting and more.

Volunteers are fed, watered, and eligible for prizes and give-aways.  They also get a unique opportunity to be part of a crew that makes something amazing happen – they make it possible for youth and high level athletes to compete in their sport, to achieve their goals and reach for their dreams.

The members of the Callaghan Valley Cross Country Ski Club are the key organizers for the major events in the valley, but we are a small group, made up from the executive of a number of Sea to Sky cross country clubs.  We want our club members to view the Callaghan as their home base, THEIR local area that is worthy of support.

By donating a few hours or a few days of your time a year to racing events, you can help ensure the future success of this legacy facility.

Check out our website to register as a volunteer for an upcoming event, like the Haywood NorAms World Juniors/U23 trials or the Sigge’s Payak.
