For Summer 2011, the Nordic Racers Ski Club is offering dryland training from
July 12 to September 1, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
For those who have never tried it, "dryland training" is simply training in the off-season. It combines many elements, including strength, endurance, balance, and ski-specific activities. It's the perfect way to get into shape for the ski season, and is ideal for developing or maintaining general fitness (the perfect complement to a weekend hike or bike ride).
Dryland sessions typically include running, intervals, hill climbs, plyometrics (jump training) and exercises to increase strength and balance. Workouts are SELF-PACED and can be tailored to your own fitness level. You don't have to be super-fit (you should be able to run at least 3 km comfortably), and no equipment is needed except for ski poles (downhill-length poles are best).
This summer, sessions will be led by Jamie Stirling (NCCP 3, CANSI 3, CCC Official 2) with assistance from Tony Chin (NCCP 3, CANSI 3, CCC Official 3, and BCRPA Certified Fitness Leader) and Jules Stirling (NCCP 1, CANSI 1, CCC Official 1 and BCRPA Certified Fitness Leader).
WHEN AND WHERE This summer, both sessions will be on the North Shore. Meeting places are either the Cleveland Dam parking lot or on the north end of Bridgman Ave (beside Save-On-Foods, by Marine and Pemberton). Registered participants will be emailed a location schedule.
HOW MUCH The cost for the twice a week (full) program is only $170, and the once a week program (half) is $100. Same price as last year. Since this is a planned progressive program, there are no drop ins and no one month option.
REGISTRATION To register for Summer 2011 Dryland click here. The program requires a minimum of 15 participants (About 5 full time and 10 half time). Please register by July 8 at midnight so we will know if we have enough participants to run the program.
